NATIONAL men's hockey captain Hector Smith Jr and his assistant Rupeni Fabiano will receive financial assistance from their employers for their trip to India next month.
The national men's and women's teams will compete in Round 2 of the FIH (International Hockey Federation) World League in New Delhi.
Yesterday, their employer Asco Motors announced, they will contribute $5000 towards their trip.
Each player is required to raise $3200 for the trip and the $2500 each will assist the two players.
Fiji Hockey Federation president Dr Robin Mitchell applauded the support from Asco Motors.
Smith said the gesture by his employer was a morale booster to him, Fabiano and the whole team.
He said he would give his best in every game to make sure the money invested in him was worth it.
"I am really grateful to Asco Motors for providing financial assistance to me and Rupeni and we are thankful for their support," Smith said.
"This is a big morale booster for us and I would make sure I play to the best of my abilities in the tournament to show that their money did not go to waste," he said.
Meanwhile, the national teams will conduct fundraising drives for the next few weeks to raise enough money for their expenses in India.
They leave for the tournament on February 14 and the tournament will be from February 18 to 24.
