RISING star Baarroon Hussain is one of the 19 players who is fighting for a spot in the national team for the 2013 Nomura Cup which will be played in Thailand in November.
Hussain won the John Cooper Junior Championship at the Fiji Golf Club last week. The win propelled him to the fifth spot on the Fiji amateur golf rankings list behind Amitesh Chandra, Roneel Prakash, Anuresh Chandra and Olaf Allen Jr.
The second trials for the national team will be held at the Pacific Harbour Golf Club this Sunday.
Amitesh, who is the National Golf Association secretary, said Allen Jr was a strong contender for the national team after a reasonable performance at the Australia Master of Amateurs Championship in Melbourne last week.
He said the trials would be held over 27 holes.
"There are 19 players who will be attending the trials for the Nomura Cup at Pacific Harbour," Amitesh said.
"Olaf is currently leading the pack followed by Anuresh and Roneel. The Nomura Cup is a four-man team championship. It will be held in Thailand in November.
"The players will be put to test this weekend as this will be a 27-hole trial. For all the players, this will also serve as a fitness test especially after the festive season."
The players who will be attending the trials include Olaf Allen Jr, Anuresh Chandra, Ritesh Chandra, Roneel Prakash, Munesh Prasad, Pranil Prasad, Mohammed Sharif, Rajen Singh, Vikash Chand, Asish Chand, Asish Kumar, Baarroon Hussain, Mohammed Faiyaz, Nigel Gounder, VK Pillai, Mohammed Rizwan, Jainendra Prasad, Nilesh Chand and Amitesh Chandra.
The third trials will be held in Suva from March 23-24 where the squad will be trimmed to 12.
