NADI got the start they were looking for in the National Football League (NFL) opener following the surprise win over Labasa at Subrail Park yesterday.

The Jetsetters tamed the experienced Babasiga Lions 2-1 to stun close to 3500 fans that came to witness the opening round of the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries NFL competition.

The Arthur Simmons-coached Labasa side, which boasted more possession and scoring opportunities, was unlucky to lose as lady luck proved to be with the visitors as they scored the goals from a corner and free kick.

In the other match played at Subrail Park, Suva trounced Savusavu 4-1 to top the NFL points table.

At Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, favourites Rewa and Ba recorded close wins over minnows Tavua and Nadroga.

The Delta Tigers, coached by former Fiji Karate rep Marika Rodu, struggled to beat the Goldminers 1-0 while the Men in Black recorded a similar score over the young and spirited Nadroga side.

Meanwhile, Nadi will take on Savusavu at 1.30pm at Subrail Park followed by the Labasa versus Suva clash at 3.30pm today. The Yogendra Dutt-coached Ba will take on Lautoka at 3pm at Churchill Park.
