TEAM Fiji for the Pacific Mini Games had their first team assembly in the build-up to the event in September.

A total of 110 athletes were listed for the meet and despite only 95 turning up, Team Fiji chef de mission, Alini Sovu said it was a good response.

She said yesterday's meet at the Kshatriya Hall in Suva was to motivate the athletes in their preparations for the event.

The main speaker at the event was Derek Derenalagi, a Fijian double amputee who represented Great Britain at the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Fiji will be represented in athletics, rugby, taekwondo, weightlifting, volleyball, beach volleyball, va'a canoeing and sailing.

The Mini Pacific Games will be held in Wallis and Futuna from September 2 to 12.
