Charity formulates strategy

NORTHERN Charity Alliance believes that its planned disaster risk management project is a permanent fix and not a band-aid solution to dealing with natural disasters.

NCA member Roshan Lal said the earmarked projects were divided into three phases.

Mr Lal said water tanks that were brought by the group initially to be distributed to islands in Vanua Levu ravaged by Tropical Cyclone Evan were issued with water tanks from government.

"We are going to set-up the water tanks in identified areas known as sector centres that are densely populated to standby for natural disasters," he said.

"Not only will this be used for natural disasters but it could be even used during water cuts or other causes."

"The second phase will also involve the collating of emergency food supplies and emergency food rations to be stored in the sector centres for other emergency situations."

Mr Lal said this was a proactive way of response rather than waiting for cyclones to strike.
