THREE New Zealand-based players who represented Fiji in the 2011 Oceania Football Confederation Under-17 Championship are part of the Fiji U20 squad preparing for the upcoming OFC U20 playoffs.
Soheb Sheik, Joseph Turagabeci and Sohail Basha were part of the U17 side that failed to go beyond the pool stages in New Zealand.
Fiji FA vice-president and national team director Tarunesh Reddy said the parent body was keeping tab on players with Fiji origin who could represent the various national teams.
He said it was good to see the players from New Zealand maintain their form and be selected for the next level of competition.
"We have five overseas players who are part of the Fiji U20 squad and three of them represented the Fiji U17 team previously," Reddy said.
"So it is good to see the players progressing through the stages. Fiji FA is identifying the potential talents and the coaches are keeping tab on them."
Sheik, who attends Liston College in Waitakere, was the top goal scorer for the Papatoetoe team in 2010 netting 49 times. He also represented the Napier U19 team in 2011.
The other two overseas players in the U20 squad include Trishaal Gajen Naidu and Krisnil Deo.
The OFC U20 playoffs will be held at Churchill Park in Lautoka from March 17-30.
