FIFTEEN-year-old Baarroon Hussain has set his sights on becoming the next Vijay Singh.

And his dream got a major boost after the Nadi Golf Club member won the inaugural John Cooper Junior Golf Championship at the Fiji Golf Club course in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

The Nadi Muslim College student shot two over 75 to accumulate 155 gross points to win the two-day tournament.

Hussain, who is originally from Topline, Batinikama in Labasa, was the leader in the opening day after he shot three over 75.

"I have been playing golf since I was nine and this is my second major win after I won the 2010 Cadbury Junior Open in Nadi," the fifth ranked amateur golfer in the country said.

"My aim is to become like Vijay Singh. I idolise him and want to bring glory like he did to this country.

"But my focus right now is to become the top amateur golfer in the country and I'm taking a step at a time to ensure my dream comes true."

Hussain dedicated the win to his friend Shavil Prasad, who accompanied him to this tournament and won the second prize in the A-grade division.
