FORTY-SEVEN youths from the Housing Assistance and Relief Trust (HART) homes participated in a Teens Leadership Camp at Pacific Harbour aimed to empower and equip them with tools to tackle challenges in life with a positive mind-set.
The camp was co-ordinated and funded by the Leadership Fiji graduates of 2011 after the initial success of the camp held in December of that year.
The youths aged between 14 and 24 years were guided by Leadership Fiji 2011 graduates on the broad topics of Team Work.
They learnt about life skills, team bonding activities and motivation, and also heard life stories of successful individuals in communities.
They also learnt how to plan and budget through the 'Money Minded' program co-ordinated by Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ).
Camp co-ordinator and graduate of the Leadership Fiji 2011 group, Theresa Yalimailakeba said the vision was to see teenagers in the HART community achieve their dream and share their experiences with other youth in the HART communities.
"To empower the youth we believe we need to give them an opportunity to step up.
"For that we need to provide them with avenues to gain inspiration and encourage each child to bring out the best in them," said Ms Yalimailakeba.
