Sentence stays

A SERVING prisoner's appeal against his sentence was dismissed by the High Court in Labasa yesterday. Sunia Mateiwai, who represented himself, appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar. Mateiwai was convicted and sentenced to five years after the court found him guilty of possessing illicit drugs weighing about 6.7 kilograms. Justice Goundar said the sentence was appropriate.

Case adjourned

A MAN charged with one count of aggravated robbery appeared in the High Court in Labasa yesterday. Erami Namatana appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar. Namatana allegedly committed the offence in Labasa last year. He requested the court to refer the case to the Magistrate's Court. State lawyer Sekonaia Vodokisolomone did not object to the request. The case was adjourned to February 1.
