Suspect in court

Salaseini Vosamana
Saturday, January 12, 2013

A MAN who allegedly hacked another man to death and attempted to set fire to his house pleaded not guilty to the charges yesterday.

Pita Dabobo is charged with one count of murder and attempted arson.

He appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar in the High Court at Labasa.

Dabobo was represented by defence counsel Penijamini Lomaloma.

The court heard that Dabobo allegedly murdered the victim and unlawfully tried to set fire to his house on August 19 in Bua last year. Mr Lomaloma told the court that his client (Dabobo) was allegedly assaulted by police officers upon interrogation.

He also said the information on the victim's medical report was sketchy and it had no direct lead to Dabobo's alleged actions. Justice Goundar adjourned the case to July 29 for trial.
