BRISBANE - Opals star Lauren Jackson has been ruled out for the remainder of the WNBL season after undergoing surgery on her troublesome hamstring complaint.

The operation in Melbourne was deemed a success but her WNBL club - seven-time champions Canberra Capitals - must turn around their fortunes without their trump card.

Jackson was supposed to begin a $1 million, three-season deal with Canberra this year but has not been able to take the court due to her chronic hamstring problem.

She had been battling injury since before the London Olympics and aggravated it playing for WNBA club Seattle prior to linking with Canberra.

"I'm very happy that I've now had this operation, and I'm delighted with the medical opinion that I should be able to make a full recovery," Jackson said in a statement.
