Identify tertiary institutes

THE Public Service Commission has issued a circular requesting ministries and departments to identify tertiary institutions that provide relevant qualifications and capacity enhancement towards their operations.

The objective of the circular was to ensure that ministries and departments provided feedback on tertiary institutions that provide appropriate qualifications that were suitable to the respective workplace processes.

PSC permanent secretary Parmesh Chand said despite the recognition of the Fiji Higher Education Commission of training providers, some of the programs that were provided by these agencies may not be relevant to civil service operations.

"The priority will be to validate institutions that serve a purpose in the work of the civil service in terms of recognition of qualifications to make appointments and promotions," he said.

Mr Chand said PSC would issue a circular on the approved list of recognised institutions that would guide and provide clarity to ministries and departments for purposes of recruitment once submissions were received and analysed.

Traditionally, qualifications from the University of the South Pacific and Fiji National University have been recognised by the commission.
