Update: 6:29PM SOME 15,000 Water Authority of Fiji customers in the country will soon have their water bills increased.
The authority will replace all old water meters that have been in existence for more than 20 years with new ones to get accurate readings.
Authority chief executive officer Opetaia Ravai said some old meters have been giving reduced and inaccurate readings.
If 20 units of water is used, the old meters only register about eight units, Mr Ravai said.
A total of about 27,000 meters need to be replaced but we will focus on replacing at least 15,000 this year, he said.
Mr Ravai said the authority will spend $3.5 million on the replacements.
