TWO men have pleaded guilty to raping a 17-year-old girl in Rakiraki in 2009.

The two — a 25-year-old and a 20-year-old — appeared at the Rakiraki Magistrates Court yesterday each charged with one count of rape.

The pair are farmers.

Appearing before Magistrate Samuela Qica, the two men admitted to assaulting and raping the young girl.

The court heard that the girl was returning from a church conference when she was attacked.

According to divisional police prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police Anil Prasad, the girl fell unconscious when she was punched by one of the men.

She was then dragged by the two men to a nearby vacant house where they repeatedly raped her between 7pm and 8pm on March 25, 2009.

ASP Prasad said in mitigation, the two men begged for leniency from Magistrate Qica.

He said they apologised for their actions.

The men are expected to be sentenced later today.
