Yachties reward staff with rehab tools

A GROUP of people who committed themselves to securing their workplace and properties in their care have been rewarded this week in an innovative relief effort with long-lasting benefits.

At the Vuda Marina in Lautoka this week, yachties decided to give back to workers who spent a considerable amount of time and effort to secure their vessels before Tropical Cyclone Evan barrelled western Viti Levu with damaging winds.

The yachties collectively bought building tools which staff could use to rebuild or repair their homes.

Marina general manager Adam Wade said the staff had done a lot.

"They worked long hours, foregoing their own houses, secured the yachts and marina.

"As a result, there was minimal damage to the marina" he said.

"One staff member lost his entire house while others suffered damage to infrastructure such as their kitchens and washrooms."
