A TOTAL of 147 traffic infringement notices were issued in the north during the festive season.

This was part of the third phase of Operation Blitz by the Land Transport Authority and the police.

Authority spokesman Alfred Wiliame said yesterday seven vehicles were also seized for expired registration and 82 had defective orders.

"We also recorded cases of speeding, careless driving, the use of mobile communications while driving and defects on vehicles that were dangerous," Mr Wiliame said.

"Drivers are penalised with the issuance of infringement notices and are required to pay fines raging from $25 to $200. If they fail to do so in 21 days, their case is brought before the court."
