FITNESS is one area the Fiji under-17 squad is focusing on during its week-long camp in Ba.
Coached by Kamal Swamy and Usenio Logaivou, the side is based at the Football Academy together with the national U20 training squad.
Fiji Football Association vice president and national team director Tarunesh Reddy said all the players had registered for the camp last weekend.
He said they would return to their respective districts this weekend.
"It costs a lot of money to keep two 30-member squads in camp at the same time," Reddy said.
"The U17 players are gelling well. The coaches are working on the various combinations but the fitness level needs to be lifted."
"Players will be released this weekend. Thereafter they will be summoned to weekend camps from now on."
The national U17 team will participate in the Oceania Confederation U17 playoffs in Santo, Vanuatu from April 17-27.
Meanwhile, the focus is on the national U20 team which will participate at the OFC playoffs in Lautoka from March 17-30.
At the 2011 playoffs in Auckland, Fiji was walloped 6-0 by New Zealand in the semi-final at the North Harbour Stadium.
The team boasts five overseas players — Divikash Krisnil Deo (Papatoetoe High), Sohail Basha (Saint Peters College), Joseph Turagabeci (Liston College), Trishaal Gajend Naidu (Unitec NZ) and Soheb Zaffar Sheik (Manukau City FC).
Basha and Turagabeci represented the Fiji U17 team during the 2011 OFC U17 playoffs in New Zealand.
