THE Island Electric Lautoka Crushers players will undergo three more fitness tests before the start of the 2013 Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup competition in April.

A total of 25 players attended the first fitness test at the Fiji National University ground in Natabua on Monday.

Several senior players missed out.

Crushers coach/manager Mesake Navugona said these players had been excused as they were tied with personal commitments.

He said majority of their under-18 players turned up for the test.

"The fitness level is where I thought it would be at this time of the year," the former Fiji Bati said.

"The upper body strength of the players is average. So now we know where the boys stand. They will have to work hard from here to reach that required level for the high intensity Vodafone Cup competition.

"The players will get together every Monday for group training. For the other days they will train on their own. On the first week of every month we will hold fitness tests to gauge the progress of the players.

"What we are now trying to do is to give the players a taste of professional training."

Tikiko Inoke, Semi Ravula and Semi Tuicoco were some of the senior players who attended the fitness test.

The Crushers are aiming to win the Vodafone Cup this year.

Makoi Bulldogs are the defending champions.
