TWO new teams have registered for the second round of the Lautoka Basketball Association women’s league competition this Saturday.

They are Batiri and Namoli Two.

This moves the number of women’s teams in the competition to six.

LBA secretary Emosi Koro said the inclusion of the new teams would boost the competition.

He said the venue for the second round would be known later in the week as the portable basketball hoops at the Sugar City multi-purpose courts had been damaged during Tropical Cyclone Evan.

“We may hold the league competition at the Latter-day Saints Church courts at Waiyavi or at Balawa,” Koro said.

“The matches will be played on a round-robin basis. We are yet to determine the date for the postponed Fitness Five tournament.”

Lady Cougars won the first round of the women’s competition. The other teams include Namoli, Tribal Getaway and Profarian Babes.

Fiji Under-19 rep Peter Gus is expected to return from Australia next week and boost his Young Stars team. Gus represented Fiji in the FIBA Oceania Youth Basketball Championship in Melbourne last month winning a bronze medal.
