SUVA Volleyball Association (SVA) is hoping for a better turnout next week as it builds up towards the Inter-District tournament to be held on January 18 and 19.
Yesterday the association recorded a poor turnout after it resumed the weekly club competition at the LICI multipurpose courts in Laucala.
Only four teams turned up in the super premier grade while seven teams in the premier grade.
SVA technical advisor Iliesa Raketekete said the four teams in the super premier grade contributed $50 each and played each other for the $200 total prize money.
In the final, Marist Blue defeated Marist Red 2-1 to walk away with the $150 prize money.
In the premier grade, Qauia One defeated Sharks 3-2 to retain the FBC premier challenge title.
Raketekete said a women's team from Qauia also marked its debut yesterday losing to Marist Saints 0-3.
"Maybe the teams are still in the festive mood and we hope by next week, most of them turn up for the weekly club games."
Meanwhile, Raketekete confirmed the SVA inter district tournament would feature Nausori as well which would accommodate players living between the Laqere bridge and Nausori.
Suva, Lami and Nasinu are the other districts participating in this tournament, which will see the winner in the men's and women's grade walking away with $1000 each.
Suva will not be taking part in the Vulaca Championship, which will be held in the same weekend.
Raketekete said those teams that were not affiliated under Fiji Volleyball were welcome to participate in the SVA Inter-District tournament.
"We are hoping for 24 teams to take part in the inter-district tournament. We are also hoping for fierce competition in this tournament."
