Chandra retains title

ANZ banker Amitesh Chandra made it back-to-back victories during the Nadi Airport Golf Club A grade gold medal playoffs yesterday.

Amitesh won the A grade title after carding 70.

In doing so he created history by winning the gold medal playoffs and the A grade championship titles back-to-back for the 2012 season.

Amitesh who is also the National Golf Association said making a rare back-to-back feat in both the gold medal playoffs and the club championship was overwhelming.

He said the task ahead was to make it a hat-trick in both competitions.

Balram won the gold medal playoff in the B grade while Diresh Kumar won the gold medal in the C grade.

Amitesh also took out the 2012 season closing 18 holes event sponsored by Jacks of Fiji. He carded 73 to win the overall gross. Korean national Kay won the overall nett with a score of 58.

Nilesh Chand won the A grade nett. He scored 66. Veteran Ram Khelawan was placed second after a countback from Mohammed Faiyaz. Both golfers carded 72. Diresh won the C grade. He scored 64 nett. Sunil Dutt was second with 71 while Ratu Meli was placed third with 72. Mohammed Sharif won the seniors category with 68 finishing ahead of Walter Southey on 76.

Sulu Brooks won the ladies category with a score of 76. PJ Singh and Abid Hussein won the nearest to the pin prizes.
