THE Nausori Cowboys rugby league club kicked off their off-season campaign with their first training session at the Lelean Memorial School grounds yesterday.
The Cowboys are one of the new clubs that will join the Fiji Rugby League club competition this year. Formerly known as the Nausori Bulldogs, the Cowboys are back in the competition after a lapse of several years.
Club official Ovalase Toduadua said he was pleased they were able to start their training.
"Today (yesterday) was our first training session and I am so happy that we have started our campaign," he said.
Former Tailevu rugby union utility back and Fiji secondary schools age-group player Kalivati Cavuilati was one of the many players that turned up at training.
He said most players played rugby league during their school days. "It is a lot easier to teach the basic skills to these players because most of them played the code at high school level. We are looking forward to the start of the season and I hope more players will join us at training," he said.
The FNRL club competition kicks off in March.
