Busy start for champs

RECOVERY is the major concern for the Ba team management with the Men in Black playing two matches during the opening round of the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League next weekend.

The Yogendra Dutt-coached Ba side is scheduled to take on Nadroga on January 12 and then face Lautoka the following day.

Ba will miss the services of three senior players Osea Vakatalesau, Avinesh Suwamy and Abbu Zahid.

The trio copped suspensions following the Inter District Competition final against Suva last October.

Suwamy and Zahid will miss the first match against Nadroga as they are serving a one match suspension while Vakatalesau is out for three months.

Ba team manager Arvind Singh said playing two 90-minute games in as many days would take its toll on the players.

He said they would be looking at options to rotate their squad. Singh said they had capable players to fill in the void left by the three suspended trio.

"Our main concern is recovery," Singh said.

"We play on Saturday and then on Sunday. It would have been better if a game had been played on Friday and the next one on Sunday.

"But we cannot do much as the schedule is tight this season with a postponement already due to Tropical Cyclone Evan.

"Eventually we will be playing every week. The Champions League starts in March."

The Ba team will start training tomorrow.

Ba is the defending NFL champions.
