A GOVERNMENT team led by district officer Taveuni, Peni Tora is touring the Garden Island holding awareness campaigns for villagers on government health and development initiatives for rural areas.
The team which consists of a police doctor conducting free circumcision operations for children on the island during the school break and have also presented other government departments with the opportunity to reach out to people at the grassroots level on the island through the joint campaign.
Mr Tora lauded the support from Police Commissioner Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua and his men saying the campaign would not be possible if not for the force doctor currently on the island.
"We have received requests for circumcisions from villages and other islands close to Taveuni and we will be covering them this weekend," he said.
"This is also a good time to reach out to the communities on the island and conduct awareness on the government's present approach and stand on development in rural areas," Mr Tora said.
