Call for blood as hospital bank supply runs low

THE Fiji National Blood Services unit in the Ministry of Health is calling on individuals, non-governmental organisations and any other interested parties to help organise blood drives to address shortages in the country's biggest hospital.

With the blood bank at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in critical need of O-positive and A-positive blood types, the management of one of Fiji's leading hardware stores took time out from their busy schedules to organise a blood drive yesterday.

Staff and management of RC Manubhai were present at their timber yard located at Raiwai yesterday and collected 15 units of blood.

Fiji National Blood services official Sunil Reddy said for the last two weeks there was a shortage of the two blood types which prompted the call.
