A 20-YEAR-OLD woman who is accused of stabbing her former lover in Cunningham, Suva on Sunday has been ordered by Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili to be taken to St Giles Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
Lanieta Marama appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday on a count of acting with intent to cause grievous harm.
Magistrate Ratuvili told Ms Marama to be mentally examined to determine whether she was aware of what she was doing when she committed the offence.
"We will not hear your bail application today as you will have to be taken for a psychiatric evaluation," he said.
It is alleged that on December 30 last year, Ms Marama stabbed her ex-girlfriend Susana Raideni, 29, during a heated argument at Ms Marama's residence at Cunningham Stage 2.
Ms Raideni, who was admitted to hospital with injuries, was present in court yesterday along with the accused's father and 16-year-old sister who was present at the time of the incident.
Ms Marama has been further remanded in custody and is expected to be admitted to St Giles Hospital in less than 14 days.
The matter has been adjourned to January 21 when the court will hear her bail application.
