MAGISTRATE Yohan Liyanage yesterday ordered that a man be released on bail after the accused asked the court to grant him bail to buy school materials for his four children.
Eneriko Seru, 38, of Namadai settlement appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court charged with one count of damaging property. Seru asked for bail on the grounds that with the new school year just around the corner, he needed to buy school stationery for his children and he also asked the court that he be given strict bail conditions.
Police prosecutor Pauliasi Vakawaletabua objected to the bail saying that the accused had previous criminal convictions and that he lived in the same settlement as the complainant.
However, Magistrate Liyanage agreed with the accused and ordered that he be released on a $1000 bail bond and to report to the Samabula Police Station every Friday between 6am and 6pm.
Plea has been deferred and the case adjourned to January 21.
