THEIR sacrifices and dedication have helped victims of Tropical Cyclone Evan in the north rebuild their lives over the past month.

And while their efforts might not be recognised, government officials who were part of the Northern Emergency Operation Centre spent their Christmas and new year celebrations away from their loved ones because they were on standby monitoring the weather situation.

With only six officials on standby, the team was treated to a dinner party at Vaturekuka on Tuesday night in appreciation of their hard work and effort.

Divisional planning officer northern Alipate Bolalevu said they decided to organise the party to thank the officials.

Also present was the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, who conveyed his sincere gratitude to the officials for their efforts.

"There was no time to rest for these officials after the cyclone because initial assessment work on all damage was carried out as well as the distribution of food relief supplies to the victims," Mr Bolalevu said.

"In the process, they had to sacrifice their Christmas and New Year celebrations because they were in the office monitoring the situation on the ground," he said

Meanwhile, distribution of relief supplies continue in Vanua Levu.
