A new rugby league club is expected to join the Fiji National Rugby League Lautoka competition next season.
Efforts have begun to establish the club in Field 40 on the outskirts of the Sugar City.
Former FNRL development officer Ilisoni Rogoyawa is behind the formation of the new club.
Rogoyawa said the club would include players from the Field 40 area.
He said many players from the area were representing other clubs.
"Some of the players from Field 40 represent the Saru Dragons, Nadi Eels and the Lautoka Warriors," Rogoyawa said.
"We will try and lure these players with the set-up of the new club. The formation of this new club will be beneficial for the Lautoka competition.
"Right now there are five clubs. So every week one club is on a bye. When there will be six clubs then all will be featuring in the competition each week. We will be looking for sponsors to run the club."
The FNRL changed the format of the national competition splitting the western conference into Lautoka and Nadi zones.
The other clubs in the Lautoka competition include Lautoka Crushers, West Tigers and Naviyago Sharks.
Rogoyawa said the FNRL should use the off-season to conduct clinics.
He said there should be clinics for coaches and referees.
"The FNRL has a strategic plan but it needs to be implemented," Rogoyawa said.
"In the off-season there is a lot of time to conduct development work. The children are on a break from school. So it is ideal to hold Kaji clinics. This will generate interest among the young ones."
The FNRL season starts in April.
