Shun shines at Mavoa Memorial golf tournament

HOI Shun was crowned the winner of the Jonati Mavoa Memorial Golf tournament at the Fiji Golf Club yesterday.

Shun had a score of 43 to put him clear of other competitors amd walk away as the number one golfer at the Vatuwaqa golf course.

Defending champion Rishi Ram did not attend the tournament because of personal commitments.

Mohammed Rafiq won the A grade with 41 points. Vijay Goundar was second on 39 and Kevin Maitava finished third on countback with 38.

In the B grade, Martin Fidler edged Ashok Nath on countback. Both golfers had a score of 42. Josua Mataika was third on 41 points.

Jung Hou won the C grade on 43 points while Agnes Managreeve finished first in the women's division with 38.

FGC official Veramu Rokotavaga congratulated Shun for an impressive score recorded at the one-day tournament.

"It was a good tournament with a good number of golfers turning up for the day. Hoi Shun is the winner with a very good score," he said.

The event is an annual golf tournament which is organised by the Turtle Golf Club to commemorate the late Jonate Mavoa who was a former cabinet minister of the Alliance Government and was the president of the club before he passed away in the mid 80s.
