THE postponed 36-holes John Cooper Junior Golf Championship will now be played on January 9 and 10 at the Fiji Golf Club (FGC) course in Vatuwaqa.

The inaugural tournament was initially scheduled on December 19 and 20 but postponed following the Tropical Cyclone Evan.

FGC captain Kevin Maitava said they were expecting more than 50 participants in the 18 years and under championship.

He said young golfers from all over the country were invited to participate at the event.

"Unfortunately the tournament got postponed because it coincided with TC Evan," Maitava said.

"However it will be played in 2013 where the participants will play 18-holes per day in the two-day competition."

Maitava said the championship was sponsored by New Zealander John Cooper, who used to reside in Fiji.

He said Cooper donated a trophy and $1000 to help purchase the prizes for the tournament.

Top junior reps like Ufemia Naisara, Jiujiua Leca, Vijeshwar Dutt, Pranay Shandil, Sainiana Naisara, Api Raikuna and Dawi Lee are expected to compete for the title.
