A MAN who allegedly caused the death of an 18-year-old woman in a road accident on Laucala Bay Rd on December 23 last year, has been granted bail by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Jiang Peng appeared before Magistrate Yohan Liyanage.

His lawyer requested bail on the grounds that he was a businessman with a lot of business in the country.

She said he had been in Fiji for the past 30 years and had surrendered his passport to the police.

Mr Peng is charged with three counts of causing grievious bodily harm and one of dangerous driving and failure to undergo breath analysis in accordance with the direction of a police officer.

The police prosecution did not object to bail but requested that the court hand out strict bail conditions.

Mr Peng was given a $1000 bail bond and ordered to report to the Totogo Police station every Friday between 6am and 6pm.

The court also issued a stop departure order against him and this would be communicated to the Immigration Department by the court registry.

Mr Peng's lawyer told the court her client was a Fiji citizen after obtaining citizenship 10 years ago and did not carry a China passport.

Plea has been deferred and the matter adjourned to January 25.
