SIX people allegedly involved in stealing $50,000 worth of new $100 bills from a bank in Suva appeared in the Suva Magistrate court on Monday.
The sixth accused Viliame Cama appeared on Monday afternoon while four men and a woman were in court earlier in the day on related charges.
Mr Cama is alleged to be the principal offender in the case.
Director of Public Prosecutions lawyer Nancy Tikoisuva asked the court to issue an order for Mr Cama to be further remanded in police custody because he was helping the police recover some of the funds.
In her submissions, Ms Tikoisuva said: "Police officers will travel to Koro Island to recover funds, and if the accused is released on bail, I feel he can compromise investigations as he is the only one who knows where the money is being circulated."
Ms Tikoisuva said if Mr Cama was kept in prisons custody, it would only drag investigations because he would be under the care of the Corrections Department and not the police.
Mr Cama appeared before Magistrate Yohan Liyanage who ordered he be remanded in police custody for another 48 hours.
Mr Liyanage placed Cama in the custody of the officer in charge of Totogo Police Station. He will reappear in court tomorrow.
