WHILE many welcomed the new year with parties, songs and dance, one woman had the best reason to celebrate.

Lusiana Dulaki, 29, of Kalabu Housing in Nasinu gave birth to a health baby girl at 12.20am on New Year's Day.

Speaking to The Fiji Times from her hospital bed in the CWM Hospital's Anderson Maternity Unit, Mrs Dulaki, who hails from Koro Island in Lomaiviti, said she could not express how happy she was giving birth to Fiji's first 2013 baby.

"This is my sixth baby and I am so happy because I did not know I will be the mother to give birth to the first baby of the new year," she said.

Two more babies were also born on New Year's Day at the CWMH. The second, a baby boy, was born at 1.15am to 23-year-old Sainimere Marama of Baulevu weighing 3.45kg.

The third, a 2.75kg baby girl, was born to Elizabeth Narayan.
