Festive season training

FIJI under-18 rugby coach Eroni Vereivalu is expecting a better performance from his players in the second fitness test next week.

Vereivalu gave his players a training program during the festive season and he has kept a close eye on the players' attendance and responses.

He earlier told Times Sport about his delight in the commitment shown by players. The second fitness test will be on January 10.

"I am expecting a better performance from the players in the second test. I have been following them for the past few weeks and I have seen the commitment they have towards the set-out training program," Vereivalu said.

The Fiji U18 side will tour Australia next September.

And Fiji Rugby Union national coaching director Franck Boivert believes it's time to focus on age-group players.

Vereivalu said he had been working closely with Boivert on nurturing the skills of the U18 players as the next generation of players in the national team.

"This is our focus, the age-group players.

"Franck (Boivert) and I are working on improving their skills at this level because they are the future national reps.

"This is the right time to groom them and nurture them to be the players we want them to be," he said.
