Cheap charge saves

THE Kidney Foundation of Fiji is saving lives thanks to the low cost of its dialysis service.

The recently opened Fiji Kidney Dialysis Centre has restored the lost hopes of kidney patients.

"We provide dialysis with the cheapest charges, in fact I think this is the cheapest for dialysis in the world," said foundation president Dewan Maharaj.

"Dialysis treatment charges vary and for us it is not about the cost of the dialysis treatment but about saving someone's life." A person suffering from kidney failure is expected to have a dialysis treatment three times a week with the cheapest charge for a dialysis treatment at $200 which, Mr Maharaj said, was well below cost.

"Normally the original cost of the same dialysis treatment is around $270.

"This is a charitable organisation and we do not have funds on our own.

"We depend on donors and what other business houses donate to us in order to operate successfully," Mr Maharaj said.
