Watch your children

Monday, December 24, 2012

THE Fiji Water Safety Council has highlighted the need for members of the public to be extra careful around water sources around this time.

The advice, which is aimed at parents, guardians and care-givers of children, comes after the drowning toll for this year reached 67.

"Children must be supervised over this holiday season. The change in weather also brings about change to the waterways frequented by the children," a FWSC statement said.

"Responsible, mature youths should be accompanying children to the local waterway if parents are unable to be constantly present."

The statement added that children were attracted to water sources which could swell after or during the heavy rain experienced over any given week.
