Cyclone looters arrested

Update: 12:35PM NINETEEN people were arrested by police for alleged looting at the height of Tropical Cyclone Evan in Lautoka late on Monday.

The suspects were arrested by police officers from inside two supermarkets and a hardware shop during heavy rain and strong winds.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said police officers on patrol saw movement inside the shops and went in.

Ms Naisoro said 14 suspects were arrested from one shop, three from the other and two from the third shop.

The suspects are expected to be produced in the Lautoka Magistrate's Court soon.
