Town waits for weather to clear

Torika Tokalau
Tuesday, December 18, 2012

DAMAGE in Levuka won't be known until the weather improves,

Joana Boleilovoni, chairperson of the Levuka Tourism Association, said Levuka experienced only strong wind and rain yesterday.

"We have seen fallen trees and debris but nothing like houses with roofs blown away or any damage like that," she said.

"But I cannot say that there aren't any damage to infrastructure.

"We will have to wait for the weather to calm down a bit before we can make a full assessment of the damage on the island."

Ms Boleilovoni confirmed water supply in the old capital was normal while electricity which was disrupted early yesterday was restored by the afternoon.

"Levuka is blessed not to be fully affected by Tropical Cyclone Evan.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to those families, cities, towns and villages that have been badly affected," she said.
