State sets up taskforce

GOVERNMENT has established a taskforce that will ensure the swift return of the tourism industry after Tropical Cyclone Evan clears the Fiji Group.

Dixon Seeto, president of the Fiji Hotels and Tourism Association said assurances have been made by the government and work would commence once a thorough assessment was made.

"We have been given assurance by the Prime Minister that immediate assistance will be made available to municipalities and the tourism industry.

"A task force led by the permanent secretary for Tourism Elizabeth Powell will carry out an assessment and funds will be made available to clear up debris and aid properties get back into business in the quickest possible time," he said.
