Rakiraki bears the brunt

Update: 1:40PM RAKIRAKI bore the full brunt of Severe Tropical Cyclone Evan earlier today as it passed through towards the Yasawa Group.

Heavy rain and strong winds are still being experienced in the district and Rakiraki Town is also closed for business from the morning.

The Vaileka River has burst its banks and water is flowing into the town.

Police officers and firemen are on standby to assist people in need of help at the height of the cyclone
