A WOMEN'S team won the Fiji Golf Club (FGC) season closing Ambrose event in Vatuwaqa on Saturday.

Led by Margaret Browne, the team which had Gye Oh, Merelita McCarthy and Leane Keanah recorded 55 nett to win the Bank of the South Pacific-sponsored event.

Skipper Browne was elated with the win and hailed her team members for the hard work in the day-long event.

"It's sure is a big win for us considering men are big hitters and were favoured to win the tournament," she said.

"We didn't go in with the aim to win but once we started playing, everything started falling in place and we had a feeling for a pretty good score." Browne said this was the first time they teamed up to compete in a tournament representing sponsors BSP. She said they all played their part in the win.

"Merelita McCarthy, wife of BSP country manager Kevin McCarthy, scored an eagle in the sixth hole which was great."

The other eagle was scored by Mohammed Rafiq on the 13th hole.

Meanwhile, the team of Taitusi Tuivuna, Adish Naidu, Ugesh Narayan and Mohit Prasad finished in the second spot followed by team of Tomasi Tuivuna, Sikeli Tuinamuana, Laisa Digitaki and Saiasi Fuli in third.

The most golf prize was won by Ravin Lal's team.
