Repeka Nasiko
Monday, December 17, 2012

A total of 40 evacuation centres have been activated in the west.

According to the National Disaster Management Office this includes six schools in Nadi, five schools in Ba, Ra and Tavua and another seven in Nadroga and Navosa.

Tropical Cyclone Evan, which is expected to impact the Western parts of the country later today, was forecasted to bring damaging gale winds and heavy downpour causing flash flooding in low lying areas.

Provincial administrator Ba, Nacanieli Lomani said many living in flood prone areas in Ba were expected to move to the evacuation centres later today. While only schools have been activated as evacuation centres in the west, many community halls and churches have also been advised to open if the need arises.
