THE biggest Christmas tree in Fiji was stripped down yesterday by Digicel Fiji staff members at Sukuna Park in Suva.
Digicel Fiji chief executive officer Maurice McCarthy said they had no choice, in anticipation of looming Tropical Cyclone Evan.
The tree — measuring 12 metres in height — took two days to erect and decorate and one day to take down.
A lot of people watched as the tree was taken down for safety reason. Digicel Fiji public relations manager Zaheer Hassan said it was also a directive from the Suva City Council to put down the tree.
