AFTER disappointing losses to Fiji and Australia Country, the New Zealand Maori women's team defeated Papua New Guinea 10-0 yesterday.

This adds to their wins over Vanuatu and Samoa in the FIH World League and Oceania Pacific Cup at the National Hockey Centre in Suva.

The Kiwis were at it right from the start and led 2-0 after 10 minutes with both goals from Sioux Morgan.

Tournament media officer Sekaia Niumataiwalu praised the effort of PNG goalkeeper Rachel Rabbie.

"New Zealand was awarded many penalty corners but thanks to some brilliant saves by PNG goalkeeper Rachel. It wasn't until the 25th minute that the PNG defence buckled and New Zealand were able to score a third goal by Penny Stark," Niumataiwalu said.

"PNG was able to keep a respectable scoreline 4-0 at half time."

The difference in class showed in the end as the Maori scored another six goals with Morgan taking her tally to four with a brace.
