SARASWATI College student Iosefo Verevou struck twice to help Fiji A down Fiji B 4-0 in the 2012 Ultimate Cup men's category at Govind Park in Ba yesterday.
Verevou one of the youngest players
to feature in the Super Premier division for Rewa at the age of 15 years, stood out in the match.
The lanky player midfielder proved his worth inthe striker's position.
But the result wasn't enough to earn the Fiji A team a spot in today's final.
Both Fiji A and Fiji B will square off in the playoff after losses to their Australian and New Zealand opponents earlier.
The two Fiji teams make up the national Under-17 training squad preparing for the 2013 Oceania Football Confederation U17 play-off in Vanuatu in April next year.
Fiji FA technical director Farouk Janeman said some of the players in the U17 squad were part of the Fiji U12 team that participated in the 2008 Danone Nations Cup in France.
He said out of 40 countries, the Fiji U12 team was placed 24th.
Janeman said it was good to see the players stick to the sport and move up through the junior levels.
He said their only drawback for the 2012 Ultimate Cup was the lack of training.
"The boys only got together for one week," the former Ba and national rep said.
"But they have been gradually combining. We have four months of preparations after this. We are positive and strongly believe that football needs to grow in the country. We will put our best effort."
"The structure for the U17 team has been mapped out. The training squad will be in camp until the school break is over. Thereafter the players will be released to attend school in January."
"We intend to bring them in camp later and work vigorously in the final phase of preparations for the OFC U17 play-off."
Meanwhile in the women's category, the Bella Ratubalavu captained Fiji A went down to New Zealand Secondary School 1-4 in their final round robin play.
The Fiji A team included Sofi Diyalowai who starred for the Labasa team during the Bargain Box women's Inter District Competition in Ba in October.
