THE Savusavu soccer side is gunning for a win in their first two National Football League games this weekend despite poor preparations.
The team from the hidden paradise finished last in the competition last year with only three wins from 18 games and had to play in the promotion/relegation series against Tailevu Naitasiri.
The Fiji Sun/GP Batteries sponsored competition kicks off tomorrow and Savusavu will face Rewa in its first match at Subrail Park and then Navua on Sunday at the same venue.
Savusavu Football Association president Gopendra Narayan said they were capable of winning even though their preparations were not consistent.
He said the weather disruptions and players not turning up for training were the main concerns for the side since their promotion relegation win over Tailevu Naitasiri.
"It's the festive season and the weather is not on our side as well and that is why many players are staying away from training," Narayan said.
"So yes fitness is a concern for us but I believe we can beat Rewa and Navua this weekend," he said. Narayan has called on Savusavu fans and also neighbour Labasa to come out in numbers and support them.
"Playing at Subrail Park is like playing at home and it is an advantage for us.
"If only the public could come out in large numbers to back the team, it would increase our advantage and also motivate our boys.
"And to the players, I would like to encourage you to play to the best of your abilities and play with all your heart to help us win," he said.
The Savusavu versus Rewa match kicks off at 1.30pm tomorrow.
