Sunrise bliss on Crusoe's Retreat

Felix Chaudhary
Thursday, December 13, 2012

WHEN Trevor wed Katerina at Crusoe's Retreat between Serua and the Coral Coast, he had no idea that the sunrise nuptials could quite possibly be the first wedding on December 12, 2012. As the sun's rays broke over the bay yesterday, the couple was none the wiser.

"To be absolutely honest, we had just planned on a sunrise wedding and had not really paid much attention to the date," said Mr Gerhardt.

"We chose Crusoe's Retreat in Fiji simply because it looked like somewhere we'd like to get married and it was also a place we had not visited despite being avid travellers." Mr Gerhardt, a South African and Mrs Gerhardt from Estonia met and got engaged at Rochester Castle in England.

"And both being from different countries, we knew it would be a logistical nightmare trying to get everyone here.

"But nonetheless, hotel guests and the staff made it a very special event for us," he said.
