ISEI Tokovu will defend his men's surfing title when the 2012 Melanesian Cup starts in Vanuatu today.

Tokovou, who participated at this year's Volcom Fiji Pro in Tavarua Island along with Paul Chong Sue, will be Fiji's top bets in the competition.

The other Pacific island countries which will also feature in the competition include Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.

Word from the competition site is that the Fiji team should have no problem with the conditions as the Vanuatu surf is usually in the small to medium range.

The competition's waiting period starts today and the swells are looking good for a possible go. Fiji's young surfers Kalani Muller, Cormac Walkden-Brown, Lionel Gibson and Mark Wakeham will be representing the country in the Junior Division.

Kalani is looking to improve from his previous semi-final placing.

The Fiji Surfing Association was able to make the trip to Vanuatu with the financial assistance from the Ministry of Sport.
