Uni hunts for new VC

THE University of Fiji is looking for a new vice-chancellor after Prof Mahendra Kumar left earlier this month.

University of Fiji council chairman Pandit Bhuwan Datt said he could only confirm that Prof Kumar was no longer the head of the West-based learning centre but would not reveal any further details. "I can confirm that Prof Kumar is no longer the VC and we will be looking to appoint someone to the position soon. At present we have appointed Chandra Dulare as acting VC," he said.

The University of Fiji was established in 2004 at Saweni in Lautoka by the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji with the intention of providing tertiary education to students who did not have access to other study centres.

The centre is governed by a council made up of education stakeholders in the country.
